Astronomy Cruises
Departing from Plymouth, MA, Waterford, CT & Long Beach, CA

Come join us on an evening cruise into the middle of Cape Cod Bay, Long Island Sound or Long Beach, CA. This is a once in a lifetime experience, over the dark unobstructed skies of the ocean. This is our 6th year doing this unique cruise. The skies in the middle of Cape Cod Bay, Long Island Sound and out by Catalina Island are very dark skies with many more stars visible than many of the light polluted land locations, but without the mosquitoes and ticks! Many people who live in populated locations live in light polluted night skies and have never seen dark skies completely filled with stars, as you will see on these cruises! Imagine the beauty of the ocean and the stars, as the large boat comes to a stop and shuts down her engines and dims her lights! On the open top deck of the boat, you will be given a narrated tour of the night sky, while shooting stars and satellites give surprise visits.

When the boat stops we use a light pointer to guide you to planets, galaxies, nebula, giant red stars, giant blue stars, star clusters, the Milky Way, and locations of black holes! We outline constellations and discuss the characteristics of the many bright stars visible. With very little light pollution over the ocean, you will have ideal dark sky conditions to view spectacular meteor showers. If you have never seen the Milky Way, our home galaxy, this cruise will be one of the best views you will have, given the dark skies in these waters. 2018 Long Beach, CA dates are below. These dates are during the Geminid Meteor Shower!
December 7, 8, 13, 14, 15

Explore The Stars at the Farm
We provide the chairs and you provide the blanket. We have a heated platform so you can sit in comfort and thoroughly enjoy the heavens above. For the first 60 minutes or so you will be given a narrated laser guided program that outlines the constellations and points to objects of interest, like giant red stars, double stars, the Milky Way, Satellites, planets, and more. After that we look through the telescope at objects of interest that are visible that evening, such as the Andromeda Galaxy! Andromeda is the light of 800 Billion stars entering your pupil after traveling 2.5 million years....staggering to try to comprehend! When visible, expect to see planetary detail like the rings of Saturn or the great storm and belts of Jupiter. We also view nebula...these are clouds of dust and gas illuminated by surrounding stars and glow in there light...simply beautiful! Expect the a random meteor or fireball (large shooting star) or a comet that has just entered our region from deep space.
The tour is approximately 90 minutes in total and goes through the winter.
